Respiratory and Sleep Specialists conduct diagnostic polysomnographic (PSG) sleep studies at our sleep investigation units as well as portable (at home) sleep studies using state of the art Compumedics sleep monitoring equipment. Using only the gold standard in PSG, we adhere to the guidelines prescribed by Medicare Australia, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in the performance of all of our sleep studies.
PSG is a non-invasive (no-needles) test that records various biological processes taking place while sleeping; including brain wave activity, breathing, muscle tone, limb movements, blood oxygen levels and heart rhythm and rate. Additionally we can perform Transcutaneous CO2 monitoring for suspicion of CO2 retention as well as 21 lead EEG PSG for suspected nocturnal epilepsy.
Catering for public and private patients, both adults and children above the age of 4 years (Brisbane Only), our PSG studies are performed in well appointed private rooms and include bathroom facilities. Qualified nursing and scientific staff monitor our patients for the duration of the overnight study, attending to their needs during the night. Patients attending our sleep investigation unit studies should arrive around 7.00pm in the evening and are able to leave from 6.00am the following morning.
