Adaptive Servo Ventilation

Auto-Servo Ventilation (ASV) is a relatively new form of non-invasive positive presssure ventilation. These specialised machines continuously monitor a patient's breathing pattern in exquisite detail. When the device detects significant reductions or pauses in breathing, it intervenes with just enough support to maintain normal breathing.  Following this, when normal respiration resumes, the machine "backs out" gently. When the patient's breathing is stable, ASV provides just enough pressure support to help maintain airway patency.

You may benefit from ASV if you suffer from Cheyne-Stokes respiration secondary to severe heart failure, complex sleep apnoea (central apnoeas emerging with use of CPAP or Bi-PAP) or central sleep apnoea (with or without an obstructive component).
